Tenesha's Ski Trip

White Winter
Packed our bags, got ready, we were off to Rainbow Ski Field. YAY! We finally got to the Rainbow Ski Field car park after a long smelly drive, thanks to the smelly old shuttle that was driving in front of us.

We were all waiting at the bottom of the ski field for about an hour, because the shuttle left us all behind. OH, finally here it comes and off up to the ski field we went.
When we got up there, we went and stored our bags in the hut, then we had a big talk with a ski organiser. He told us about how to keep safe on the slope.

It was now time to get our skis and snowboards from the rentals. A man got us sorted out with our skis, but the only let down for me was my ski boots, because they hurt my feet.

Now it was time to get out into the winter cold snow, but before we got to go skiing, we had to have a lesson. We all started learning how to move our skis back and forwards. Then it got a bit harder each time. 1,2,3,4,5 down the little slope we went. Our lesson was over. “Yay!” yells Amy. Jade and I went down the little slope for about two hours. It was now time to go down the middle slope.

Oh no, we got there and there was such a big line. It was so boring, but it was so worth it. Zoom, off up the hill we went. We stood at the top off the hill for a bit, because we were scared that we would crash into little kids, but we didn’t.

Amy, Pagan, Hannah, Jade and I found some really deep snow. It was hard to walk in it. We all raced back to the hut and had something to eat. Yum, yum, yum. Back to the snow we went. Amy made a big snowman. It looked so cool. Then Amy and I were putting our heads in snow.

It was coming closer to the end of the day, but we still had time to have lots of fun. Pagan and I got some black rubbish bags. We then found a big slope that was quite flat. I bet you all know what we did, “Weeeee!” said Pagan. It was so awesome going down the big hill. It’s time to go said Hannah, so we walked back to the hut. When we got back we gave a big thanks to the parents and teachers.

It came to the end off this awesome day. We were all ready to go home. I went to get my dry clothes on and what? Oh! I left my ski glasses in the toilet! Oh no, that was so annoying, but there was no time to get them back, because we were already on the shuttle. I think I would love to do that day all over again!

hooning down the slopes

HOONING DOWN MOUNTAINS!!!!

It was Friday the 30th, 2013. Kahu, Kai, Knightly, Mr Dunn
and I were hooning our way up to the car park, man we were excited.
Vroom, vroom! The little white Honda clunked up the twisted road. Over the cow stops, through the creeks and into the car park.

First of all we had to grab our snowboard, it was time for the lessons. We learnt how to stop, turn and slow down.

Our teacher Jeff, gave us a green sticker. I was wondering what that was for, but oh no I soon found out! I wasn’t allowed to go onto the T-bar! I was so upset. I was hoping I could go onto the goat track with Scott.

Oh well, better luck next time.

So, I went up to where we were storing our stuff to get my money and buy a little treat.

After that, I raced back to my snowboard, buckled up and was speeding like a Jet plane to the medium lift.

It took me a few times to get up, but soon I got it in no time.

I buckled up my right foot and started off down the slope.
Turning my waist side to side, hands in place. Yes! I totally had the hang of it.

Hannah came along and asked me if I would like to go up the t-bar, but I said wasn’t allowed.
“What? They let me!” exclaimed Hannah.
“Alright I’ll give it go but first I must ask Ray,” I requested.

“Hey Ray is it all right if I go on the T-bar with Hannah?” I questioned. “ Yeah, sure, give it a go.” Ray answered. Yes!! Hannah, Kahu and I were in the line in no time.

Hannah went first, me second, Kahu last.
Wow, this was easier than all the other lifts!

When we reached the top, we buckled in and waited for Kahu.

“Man, where is he? We’ve been waiting for ages,” I muttered.
Finally He’s there, now we could start.
We slowly slipped down the snowy White Mountain.

“Hey look there’s Peri!” Hannah yells. We slipped our way down. Side to side, back and forth.

Finally, we reached the Goat Track.
As we set off, I realised I was going way too fast. I slowly turned my board to slow down, realising that that wasn’t a good idea.

Smack! I face planted straight into the cold snow.
I didn’t care. I got up and slid down the slope like I was racing for the finish line.

Knightly's Recount of Room 2's Ski Trip

It all happened on Friday 30th of August

A bus came speeding back down for us.  Mrs Milne’s commanded, “ If you are in Mr Dunn’s car, get on the bus.” Another car group got on the bus.

“We are here,” remarked Kai.  We got out of the bus and put our gear in a hut. Kea, Kai and I made some snow balls and sent them flying at people.

Now we put on our lift pass. We were at the wrong hut so we went to the right hut. Then a man in a blue snowsuit came, told us about the boundaries, where to go and where not to go.

We went from the cold snow in to a warm room, where we got our boots. We were instructed to put one on.  After getting our skis we went outside. Our instructor smiled at us. “ My name is Scott.” Then we put our skis on. Oakley was the master at sliding back when he was not moving.  He would flap his arms around and fall over. We had lots of excitement.

After I had done my first go racing down the learners slope, Mrs Milne’s suggested we go and have lunch. Oh yeah, I had not had lunch yet.  I quickly wolfed my lunch down. I put my goggles on, everything looked yellow, until it settled down again.

I was already heading up the slope. Up at the top I meat Oakley. We saw Mr Dun lying on the slope waiting for Oakley to fall over halfway down the slope. But he was out of luck, as Oakley made it to the bottom without falling over. I went down too.

When I reached the bottom, I shot over a small mound of well-compacted snow, doing a small jump. I landed on the other side. I let myself slide back into the small ditch, made out of a lot of snow.

I looked around me. Seth was building a snowman on the side. Everyone was giving it their best shot and having a lot of fun. Even other people, from very young people to old people.

Key:      * Leader
            # Questions

*Group Leader
It is your job in the morning to check that everyone in the group has their news organised and ready to present, if they don’t you will need to help them.  When it is time for news you will present each group member and their type of news.  You will be running the class news for that day.  Everyone in the class will have turn at being Group Leader. Check the list to see when it is your turn. It is a responsible job and I expect everyone to go a good job.
